Shift to Stillness
Years ago when I began a landscape based project that focused on the diminishing experience of landscape, I never imagined a global pandemic leading to a shelter in place order where we would experience the world literally through layers and interfaces. Living in varying degrees of isolation, we watched our healthcare systems become overwhelmed and massive numbers of lives lost worldwide.
My work responds to this new world by exploring the relationship of personal history, landscape, the digital image and recollection.
While sheltering in place, I took over a small workshop at home. I drastically reduced the scale from my usual paintings and changed to a static view with a limited palette. Still using landscapes, these new paintings move to an interior more psychological view driven by anxiety and isolation.
